Founded in 1848, Northampton became a pivotal hub between Geraldton and the Linton Convict Hiring Station, supplying labour, and the port at Port Gregory, exporting the mined minerals.

Northampton now has the opportunity to become part of a renewed minerals boom as it is only just down the road from the proposed Oakajee Port and Rail project for the export of the midwest's iron ore

Today, the old blends with the new in this expanding and vibrant rural community. The population is around 1,000 including the surrounding area and agriculture remains the prominent trade of the region, with many families of the founding farmers continuing the tradition. The picturesque front street retains many old buildings of yesteryear.  It's not all history though with modern services and amenities including a doctor’s surgery, hospital, pharmacy, bank, post office, two schools, children’s daycare, general store, a modern supermarket, newsagents, hardware shop, tourist bureau, two service stations, cafes, and a number of rural suppliers.  The coastal communities of Horrocks, Port Gregory and Kalbarri offer aquatic pleasures, while the undulating landscape provides a peaceful rural backdrop. There is a large range of sporting clubs with facilities including football and cricket, squash, tennis, badminton and netball courts.

Drawing on historical inspiration, the street names of Settler’s Hill lend themselves to the mining background of the area, while the non-denominational Gwalla Church, now a ruin, forms the central focus of the development, still bringing the community together after 150 years. When you buy land at Settlers Hill, you’re also buying into 150 years of community history. A number of websites provide further information on the area.
